Yes. As per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, Third-Party Liability car insurance is compulsory. Driving without valid coverage is a legal offence.

What does "Own Damage" car insurance cover?

Own Damage insurance protects your vehicle against accidents, fire, theft, natural disasters, and vandalism. However, the basic own damage policy will not cover 100% of your claim amount.

Tyre and tubes - 50%; Battery - 50%; Plastic, rubber and fiber - 60% to 70%; Windshield - 100%

How is a car insurance premium calculated for a registered vehicle?

Premium is based on Insured Declared Value (IDV), vehicle age, engine capacity (cc), location (urban or rural), selected add-ons and past claims.

What is No Claim Bonus (NCB) and is it transferable?

Yes. If you don’t file any claims during a policy year, you earn a renewal discount (20% to 50%).

NCB belongs to the owner and not the vehicle. So if vehicle is sold and name transfer is done NCB of the new owner will become zero
